The Voice Newspaper Journalists Drag to Court, Duo Pleaded Not Guilty

The Gambia Police Force has dragged Musa Sheriff, Managing Editor of The Voice Newspaper and Momodou Justice Darboe, Editor of the same newspaper to the Kanifing Magistrate Court in the Kanifing Municipality Council (KMC).

The duo has been charged with false publication and broadcasting contrary to Section 181A of the Criminal Code Cap 10:01, Volume 3, Laws of the Gambia, following the paper’s September 23rd Publication, where it reported that President Adama Barrow is working on an exit plan and has already eyed businessman Muhammed Jah as a successor.

The trial magistrate, M. Faal presided over the matter at the Kanifing Magistrate Court, where she informed the duo on the charges pressed against them, however, both Musa Sheriff and Momodou Justice Darboe have pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them by the police.

Magistrate M. Faal subsequently granted bail to the duo at the tune of D100, 000 before adjourning the matter to Thursday 31st October, 2024, at 12:30 pm.
