Police have increased their presence in crime-prone communities across Greater Banjul in a bid to clamp down on criminal activity.

The Anti-Crime Unit, a post-Jammeh police division, has been deployed to Old Yundum, Salagie, Brusubi Phase 1 and 2, Wellingara, Sinchu Alagie, Sinchu Sorrie, Abuko, Faji Kunda, Tallinding, Bundung, Sukuta, Sinchu Baliya, Latrikunda and Lamin.

“The patrols targeted crime-prone locations such as criminal dens, hot spots, ghettos, garages, and vehicle routes,” police said in a statement.

According to the force, the patrols helped calm the neighbourhoods, which they attributed to the strong police presence.

Meanwhile, two men, Muhammed Faal, 22, and Yaya Jaiteh, 29, were arrested after a violent altercation.

“A pair of scissors recovered at the scene was found to be in the possession of one of the suspects. Both individuals were handed over to the charge office for further police action,” the statement added.

The Gambia Police Force said intensified patrols and community engagement would continue as part of its efforts to curb crime, protect communities and maintain public safety nationwide.
